A Woman Demonstrator Sent to Jail

HARGEISA (SL Times) - Halimo Osman Rage was arrested on Monday in Hargeisa by the police after she was reportedly charged with taking part in an unauthorized demonstration.

A working mother of 7 children, Halimo was one of the demonstrators who took to the street last Sunday in protest against the eviction the day before of Mr. Abdi Aw Dahir, former Secretary General of the UDUB political party from his office at the organization’s headquarters in Hargeisa.

Mr. Abdi Dahir was sacked about two weeks ago by UDUB’s executive committee following a dispute between him and other UDUB leaders over the selection of the party’s candidates for next month’s municipal elections.

Halimo’s arrest came after a statement of hers, in which she expressed support for Abdi Aw Dahir, appeared in our sister newspaper, Haatuf (Monday edition).
