Security beefed up as clan leaders expected to meet .
Jul 12 2001 Jamhuuriya, Hargeysa - The town of Burco in Togdheer Region central Somaliland where a conference of Somaliland clan leaders is expected to take place today, has reportedly been put under heavy security by the government which is opposed to the conference and is monitoring the meeting's activities.
According to a Jamhuriya reporter in the town, Keyse Ahmad Digaale, different types of security personnel have been deployed in the town in the past two days including police CID officers and plain clothes security agents.
A big government delegation also left Hargeysa [administrative HQ of Somaliland] last night accompanied by some national security forces.
The delegation which is expected to enter Burco town secretly, is headed by the minister of health, Abdi Aw Dahir who is also the secretary-general of the UDUB party [Somali acronym: Democratic National Party, recently formed by Somaliland leader, Muhammad Egal], and the minister of transport and communication, Jama Gas Mu'awiyya. Also in the delegation are the two chief commanders of the police and national army.
A government vehicle carrying loud-speakers, was yesterday evening seen moving round Burco town appealing to the residents to come out for a public meeting addressed by senior government officials. The meeting is expected to take place this morning at the town's public meeting places.
The mayor of Burco town, Haybe Abdullahi Ali, also issued a circular to town hotels instructing the managers to submit the names of their customers every morning.
